FREE UP THE EMOTION

This photo is of a painting by Lisa May Williams. I chose this particular moment to capture in my Softball Career because of the distinct layers of Emotion experienced at once. It was in Athens 2004 and the final strike out of the game in a tight 1-0 win against Canada. On the surface, it's a pressure release, it's about victory in a tough fought battle, it's about the success of moving into the Olympic Medal rounds but deep down it was a roar of Grief over the loss of my Mother in 2003. It was so hard not having her in the grandstand and that's where I was shouting up to.

I look at you my year and wonder what have I done

Have I dreamed you to waste through this excavation of love?

You’re almost gone but before you do

I have a few more things to show you

There’s an extra line on my face

This body has changed shape

My footprints are beginning to fade

I’m no longer who I was before

It is such a tender process to close that door

So I will Free Up The Emotion in me

And release this Brilliant Dream

Lay it to rest, it was the best

Ever in me

If next year and I meet as the fireworks fall

And my search shows its ache amidst the welcome festival

If I’m a little quiet and out of sorts, will you remind us both

That it’s completely OK for me to walk this slow

Through the thunder and the rain

This lightening and the pain

Hold me tight while I rearrange

I love the shine on the sky

After the storm passes by

Shine, c’mon shine

And I will Free Up The Emotion in me

And release this Brilliant Dream

Lay it to rest, it was the best

Ever in me

DREAM BIG. FAIL BIG, HURT BIG, GROW BIGGER

DREAM BIG, IF YOU FAIL

YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA HURT

BUT YOU GOTTA GROW BIGGER...

I WILL DREAM

BRILLIANT DREAMS
